Mauritania
Moudou Ould Mattalla is the guitarist of Chinguetti, historic town of Mauritanian Adrar, ancient trade and intellectual hub of the Sahara. Accompanied by a group of young women on vocals, drums and hand-clapping, Moudou plays the music at most events in this prestigious place, performing the various moorish dances on tidinit lute and on guitar as well as the regional repertoire of chors, women's oasis songs.
The album Guitar of the sands was released in february 2006 by Buda Musique : its proceeds helped the group invest in a small music equipment set-up, with the support of Point Afrique cooperative.
